SLK expedition
Haha this basically happened during the 2nd southern training. While our trainees were happily teaching the participants, we (junior com) ventured into the treacherous LONGKANG beside poly marina. As it was high tide, entering was no problem.
Objectives were:
1.) Explore the LONGKANG
2.) Recce for new exciting events for training camp
So we paddled and paddled, and the water became more and more shallow... then we went under a bridge... the atmosphere below it was quite scary... calm water, dark atmosphere... a very likely place where all the MAMA fishes were hidding and maybe crocodiles...
Unfamiliar of the territory we focused and pushed on (actually more like have fun and paddle...)
Along the way some japanese boys poked their head out and waved with enthusiasim speaking in a foriegn tounge which non understood. So HELL we just waved back.
Finally our kayaks would take us no further, so kumar and I disembarked, wei siong stayed to look after the kayaks while sung wen headed back to the open sea.
Slotting my sunglasses into my life vest we ventured on to see where the drain lead us to... Run run run, through the drains, ducking and crossing over fallen branches. And we finally hit the end. Poping our heads out, we found out that NUS was just opposite us. End of recce. Now most importantly was to get back to the kayaks before the tide receeded.
Ran and ran... reached the kayaks only to find that the tide has started to receed... not very good... and it dawned on us that we will have to carry it out if it went too low, we were instructors nothing was too much for us!
We pulled the kayaks till the water was deeper and we could paddle with ease. Just as i got on to my kayak! SHIT WHERE'S MY SUNGLASSES?
So again, disembarked and back tracked to find it... WAH LAO i just got it yesterday... then now? lost... can't believe my luck. Find find find and finally i found IT! MUHAHAHA its not the day to part yet! Anyways the tide was getting low fast, so we sat in our kayaks and chionged back. Did a capsize to wash away all the longkang water.
Yeah since our trainees didn't need any help, so we went one side to do stunts, did the bow rescue we did during SRRR a couple of times. Then i titanic my kayak... er it was really full of water lor... sinking but not sinking. quite scary to see an instructor do it... Think the trainees were abit scared. In the end have to use Rafted x to rescue. Soon after that, the participants tilted a double, so much water went in that we couldn't even lift it up... so in the end kumar and i had to tow it to the RSYC's plontoon to empty it... Haha and the trainees thought we would scold them, on their faces were written "SHIT SHIT SHIT... sinking kayak... die die... sure kanna screwed." And when i told them we have a debrief with them, it was like dooms day for them.
So the next interesting thing that happened was that kumar stole a hour glass from macdonalds non of us knew it until we were on our way back... told us it was one of his childhood dreams. Weird, childhood dream to steal an hour glass?
Anyways instructors had mac for lunch while trainees had duck rice. We decided to ta bao some food to eat in the sea.
For me : macnuggets + apple pie + coke
Wei siong: Fries + coke
Kumar : chocolate sundae
And guess what we found out? The participants were on a mini EX, and non of us knew... so again we had to chase them all the way from PM... ate our stuff while they rafted up. Mmm nice~
After that me and WS played with the waves at the bumboat area. FUN! MUHAHA *evil laugh*
Then start to got lighting and thunder... so they had to go back, then me and wei siong titanic our kayaks and tired to kayak back. Wah diff... so beach up and had that DOOMSDAY debrief with them. DOOM! DOOM! no lar very even scold them...
Anyways waited for the rain, then chao liao.
PS: I almost lost my sunglasses to the sea 4 times that day...
